Yeah, you read that right. I don’t want Robert Pattinson for Batman. Not because he’s not a good actor, though, or because he played a weird 90s emo kid slash vampire in that one movie (which I like!), but because I’m burnt out on all these remakes. And listen, DC has been behind Marvel for so many years, it makes me want to cry. I love DC. I love them more than Marvel, actually. But that doesn’t mean I want to see every single actor’s interpretation of my two favorite characters in that universe.
It was fun the first time. It was still cute the following five times, but I’m calling shenanigans because, well, someone has to. Right? Right.
Marvel has done a fantastic job of building a cinematic universe. In fact, they have two separate entities, the MCU and the comic books, and they’re both amazing. It would be easy for DC to replicate it with their own characters. So easy it makes me wonder what the hold-up is. Because if you talk to most DC fans they’ll tell you that they love the comics and tolerate the movies. Are all the fans like this? No. I’m sure there are plenty of people that enjoy both, or even just the movies. That’s fine too. I’m not here to make a blanket statement about my fandom, but I can’t be the only one who is exhausted by the idea of another flippin’ version of the Joker.
Before I get hate, I want to point out that I’ve enjoyed, at least on some level, every iteration of the Joker and Batman, but you have to admit at some point someone has to say enough is enough and start to flesh out some of the other billion characters that occupy that universe too. And again, before you start sharpening your pitchforks, I’ve seen the Justice League movie. It was… okay.
Bottom line is that I’m ready for more Barry and Cyborg. I’m ready for the Marvel treatment, baby! I’m ready for 12,000 visually dynamic and well-written movies that lead to one mind-blowing conclusion that breaks box office records. I’m ready for phases! I’m ready to see Beast Boy and Starfire on the big screen. I’m just ready, is my point, and DC could be doing so much better. So, like, stop it with the remakes already.
‘Cause let’s be honest, the fans are already showing you how tired of this we all are with embarrassing opening numbers (unless it’s Wonder Woman because duh!). So if it’s about money, and I’m cool if it is, pretend like you care too, and make us something worth watching, and let Batman and the Joker have a little vacay. They’ve earned it.
